Comics Du Jour

I really enjoy The Meaning of Lila, an excellent strip helmed by John Forgetta. John works at American Greetings as Editorial Director, and he's a great guy.

Lila is consistently funny, with a nice, contemporary sensiblity. It feels like an update of Cathy, without the endless swimsuit-buying angst.

The Meaning of Lila should be in every paper in the country, IMHO, and if it's not in yours, write your editor and ask for its inclusion. (And while you're at it, ask them to put in Triple Take, too.)

It's not a bad strip. My newspaper runs the strip and I'm surprised at the number of "risque" contents in some of the strips that somehow passed the editors.

If there are "Lila" strips that got axed by the syndicate, I GOTTA track them down.

That's a really funny strip that you included in your post, but they actually ran that in newspapers?

I know that when Berke Breathed returned to comics to create "Opus" in 2003, the editors said he had to address Steve Dallas being gay (he had come out at the end of "Outland") without explicitly using the word "gay" or saying anything like that.

And yet here "Lila" is using the word and describing a gay act? Why couldn't Breathed have done so four years ago?
