Summer Reading

I'm about halfway through Koji Suzuki's Ring, the novel from which the Japanese and American horror films sprang. The translation is a little akward here and there, but the pacing is excellent.

I've dangled a toe into the giant Essential Ellison pool as well. Interesting stuff.

So, what are we reading this summer?

  1. Atop my toilet tank? Mostly humor: "Created in Darkness by Troubled Americans" (a McSweeney's humor collection), "Mind Over Matters" and "Megacheese" (by Mike Nelson), "Ant Farm, and other desperate situations" by Simon Rich, and Woody's new collection, "Mere Anarchy". On the non-humor side, I'm wading through "Onward and Upward", a biography of Katherine S. White, and some early Tom Wolfe - "The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby". With a title like that, it can't miss, right?

  2. Now THAT'S a reading list! (I feel like a slack-jawed dullard by comparison, especially since I didn't mention the MAD magazines and comic books I regularly read. Does it sound less retarded to call them "graphic novels"?).

I hadn't heard Woody had a new book out. I looked it up on Amazon, and it sounds great. I'll have to pick it up. What are the odds my local Muncie Books a Million has it in stock?
